Double the memory, double the fun

Hi,

We are always working on making you, the Quantopian community, more productive on Quantopian.

In the last few days we have rolled out increases in the memory available to you in your work on Quantopian. In both your research notebooks and backtesting, you now have double the memory previously available.

What does that mean for you? Now you've got a lot more headroom with which to work. You can work with larger investment universes, use larger lookback windows, train machine learning models with larger data sets, and more.

We are confident you will make good use of this new capability as you explore the variety of data on the platform.

Happy exploring,
Josh

Yes!!!

@Josh.

Great news. Just another way the folks at Quantopian listen to the users and keep improving the site.

Now I'll be dusting off those old 'memory error' algos and see if they can be resurrected.

Wow, double the memory. This is great!

Great news!!

Awesome :)

Great move. Double the speed next? Sure there are a lot of folks here who value their time as much as I do.

ps. I'd pay for this

Nice

Thanks!!

How much memory total?

We need speed more than memory. What is the point in working with more data and larger investment universe if the backtest takes hours to complete.

Yes please. Request team to look into backtest speed.

@Dan et al., thanks for the kind words.

@Pravin and @aashutosh, we understand that sometimes backtests run long. We've got a project underway that should help, specifically around fundamental data and its use in pipeline.

We've previously invested heavily in improving backtesting execution speed -- one of the things we did as part of that project was publish some best practices around using the Quantopian API efficiently. This might help: https://www.quantopian.com/quantopian2/best_practices

All the best,
Josh

Nice work. How is fixing the leaderboard bug coming along?

Yes! Thank you Quantopian!

This is really great to hear. I'm almost done with a harmonics bot, but to make it run fast enough for the sub 1 minute run time - I made some memory trade-offs. I was a little scared it was going to be too heavy in that area.

can we buy the memories ? like we pay some fees to let us run the backtest with more mermories etc ?

Thanks a ton guys - you rock :-)

THANKS!!!

Awesome. Thanks
